The UN Convention Against Cybercrime
The adoption of the UN Convention against Cybercrime marks a milestone in the international community’s collective effort to address the growing scale, speed, and complexity of cybercrime. The Convention sets out to strengthen global capacity to prevent, investigate, and prosecute cybercrime while supporting the recovery of criminal proceeds and addressing the needs of victims.
This session will provide an overview of the Convention’s objectives and scope, focusing on its role in fostering international cooperation, capacity-building, and harmonization of legal frameworks. It will also discuss the formal signing ceremony later in October in Viet Nam, and the steps forward, highlighting how stakeholders can translate the Convention’s provisions into effective practice, ensuring stronger cross-border collaboration and a more resilient response to cybercrime.
