Victoria Coates

Senior Fellow for International Relations and National Security

Victoria Coates is a senior fellow in international relations and national security at The Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom. 

Coates served in President Donald Trump’s administration as Deputy National Security Advisor for Middle Eastern and North African Affairs, and as Senior Policy Advisor to Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette.  She has also worked for Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), Governor Rick Perry (TX), and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Coates holds a PhD in Renaissance art history from the University of Pennsylvania and is the author of David’s Sling: A History of Democracy in Ten Works of Art (2016).
