The latest in-person meeting of the “Future of Cybersecurity” Knowledge Community, led by Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE), explored the risks and implications of emerging cybersecurity trends, with a focus on developing actionable strategies and responses.

Bringing together its community of leading global organizations and industry leaders in cybersecurity and technology, the session formed part of its year-round efforts to advance knowledge and collaboration on opportunities and threats in an evolving Cyberspace.

An expert-led panel discussion, “Cyber Horizons of the Future”, framed the meeting’s focus on the strategic challenges posed by cyber trends. These included the accelerating speed and complexity of AI-driven cyberattacks, erosion of public trust in an era of AI-generated misinformation and the rise of synthetic identities, and growing dependency on a few dominant technology platforms.

Speakers debated the societal and governance impacts of these converging trends, highlighting the need for societies to invest in education, talent development and cross-sector collaboration to remain resilient. They also discussed the need for governance systems to evolve to keep pace with increasingly autonomous technologies with a global reach.

The session led into a foresight workshop, “The Matrix Game: Shape Shifter Cyber Trends”, moving the discussion toward actionable recommendations for navigating future cyber disruptions.

The recommendations emphasized cross-sector collaboration, regulatory innovation, and public awareness as key levers to address the systemic risks posed by these trends – insights that will help to shape the community’s forthcoming flagship report.

The community’s most recent activities have included community-wide surveys and the publication of an insight report “Cybersecurity Frontiers: A Perspective on Securing the Future of Cyberspace”.

GCF’s Knowledge Communities facilitate collaboration among more than 90 organizations on critical sector issues. The “Future of Cybersecurity” Knowledge Community is dedicated to exploring the opportunities and threats presented by an evolving Cyberspace and developing mechanisms to maximize the benefits and address risks on the horizon.
