Children are among the most vulnerable populations in Cyberspace. As young people gain greater access to the internet and social media, there is a heightened risk of cyber threats posing serious, unintended consequences.

The GCF thought leadership report “Why are Children Unsafe in Cyberspace” found out that 72% of children below age 12 on social media have experienced a Cyber threat, and 48% feel unsafe.

As per UNICEF, one in three young people in 30 countries said they have been a victim of online bullying, with one in five reporting having skipped school due to cyberbullying and violence.

To tackle these challenges and make Cyberspace a safe place for children, the GCF is in charge of implmenting the global initiative “Child Protection in Cyberspace” instated by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia.

The initiative comprises five key strategic objectives which encompass a comprehensive set of nine projects to be implemented globally and three projects to be piloted regionally.
